Is there a way to program my Cable TV remote from comcast to work, at least the volume control, with the Z5500 Control Center?

I know how to program different devices to the cable remote but I need the device code to do it. Anyone know what it is or if it is even possible?

device codes are standardized industry wide and regulated. i dont think there is a way to do what you want without buying a remote that can be programmed. th harmony line is a simple easy to program user friendly family of remotes in a range of prices. i have also used philips remotes and sony as well as tried marantz (a clone). you will most likly need to look at learning remotes to get what you stated above.

Could you possibly recommend where to read up about this "learning" technology?

Any remote that has "prgramming" or "learning" features can be used on different manufacturer's devices. For example, most TVs and all-in-one remotes have a long list of manufacturer IR codes in the back of the manual so you can program the remote to work with different sets.

a learning remote has a receiver on it that will copy an output signal from the original remote allowing you to assign it to a button.

what most people consider programing is not accurate. what you are really doing is entering a password/key that tells your remote what device it will be talking to. in this sense the remote already knows every code it can ever use because they are already stored in the remotes memory.

all of the brands i stated above have programmable(learning) remotes.
