Every time I open C:\Program Files\, my explorer crashes.

I can go to any folder IN program files i.e. Start > Run... "C:\Program Files\2K Games" would work fine.

I don't understand why it's happening. I tried restoring system files through cmd sfc /scannnow and it found errors the 1st time, but it didn't change anything.

Any recommendations?

Try going in to the folder in Safe Mode. You may have a problem with it's display options, such as the desktop.ini file.

Hmm. I would actually scan /program files specifically with Superantispyware and your Anti-virus. There could be something in there that explorer is freaking out about possibly. I'd just do full scans myself.

Or are you virus/spyware free that you know of?

have you tried going in there thru a command window? WINKEY+R>cmd>Enter

try that, and see if there's some odd files, maybe an odd file or folder name is tweaking windows out ... dunno

News...

I had task manager open and when I open program files.

these two programs run

dllhost.exe
searchprotocolhost.exe

what could this mean?

Fixed it...

Stupid ass vista & gimp don't work well together apparently.

Any time the folder was rendered in vista it would crash Explorer...

Cmd > cd \, cd program files, dir, del GIMP-2.0

Problem solved.

Thnx everyone.
