Proftpd Help (Linux)

I need some help on a linux proftpd config.

I've set the default root as ~ and now I want to add fake folders that point to the real ones in some peoples ~ directories. How do I do that?

I tried adding symbolic links but how I"m doing it doens't seem to be working.

FTP sucks. Use SCP/SFTP.

On my server, I simply shut off the FTP port. I haven't bothered to shut down the FTP daemon itself.

I am a bit confused, if you set their home to ~ they should already see the real folders in the home directory...why the fake ones pointing back at them??

I want to link say /usr/local/apache/share/htdocs

to

/home/john/share

and a link will not work? Do they have permissions to the files in that directory?
