Product Announcements from Nikon

D200 looks interesting. I wonder how it fair against the Canon 20D.

I was thinking about getting a 20D but I'm definitely going to wait until the reviews come in on the D200.

I'm hoping that 18-200mm AF-S VRII turns out to be top notch. I'll give it time to be reviewed before I buy (and hopefully a friend gets one so I can borrow it first), but I can definitely seeing that becoming the primary lens on my camera.

The 18-200 VRII piques my interest, but I'm just wondering what it would cost. The 28-200 ED is around $300, and the most affordable of the VR lenses is the 24-120/3.5-5.6, which goes for $500. I'd assume the 18-200/3.5-5.6 would cost more.

Would it cost as much as an 80-200/2.8? I might as well just drop money on that (even though I'd give up some VR, but the 2.8 throughout would probably even it out, though I'd assume the 80-200 would weigh more, maybe).

If it costs that much, it will becomes a tough choice.

It would be nice to have that range in a single lens, and the VR makes it even nicer for backpacking and hiking where I don't usually carry my tripod.

D200 MSRP = $1,849.00

18-200 F/3.5-5.6 VRII MSRP = $695.00

Interesting...I'm helping a local high school put together a list of equipment to buy for their Nikon systems. If the other lens choices (80-200mm f/2.8, 24-85mm f/2.8-f/4.0, 50mm f/1.8) falls through this may be the all-around useful lens for them at a decent price point. Or we may get the $110 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor...

Right now they only have a 35-70mm f/2.8 and a D100 & SB 800 flash. I'm trying to get them set up for nigh sports with the 80-200mm f/2.8, but can't believe the lack of WA f/2.8 Nikkor zooms and their prices...and I'm not sure if Sigma/Tamron is a good substitue for the school. They're also getting a D70s, and plan to have one of the lenses (& maybe body also) for exclusive use with sports so students don't break/ruin it.

F/3.5-5.6 is going to be way too slow for night sports. If they have the funds available point them at the 200mm F/2 VR. For a WA the 17-55mm F/2.8 is also kick-ass. Both of these are on my own wish list.

Anyone see the 1800 pictures for battery charge? That's awesome haha! I don't think my Rebel could make it past 300? :p

The 1800 shots per charge sounds great, but isn't that surprising to me. I've gotten 700+ before on my D70 - and that was without trying to conserve the battery (plenty of LCD use and some flash included)

I must admit, that I'd love to get all three of those new items however. Lens first, camera second, and flash third. I just need for my wife to get that CFO job and six-figure salary first, so my income becomes the play money. :p

Im loving the batteries life with my D50 so far. I bought an extra battery but, have yet to need it and, Im at 500 shots so, far. I was expecting the usual fill up maybe 1 1/2, 1 gig SD card. Lenses are next on my buy list so, the 18-200 looks good. Anyone have experience with the 600mm f/4 ED-IF AF-S II ? Most of my long shots are of wildlife so, Im wondering how good this one is. I see it weigh in at 10.7 lbs.
