Processor versus Memory

Simple question...

The new 45nm chips specify FSB of 1333. Does that mean you need to use 1333 DDR3 or above? Or does that mean you can still use DDR2-800 with it and be fine?

The reason I ask is that I subscribe to PC Gamer magazine and in the hardware section...each month they put together a build recommendations section for Dream system versus Midrange versus Low end.

In June 2008, for the Dream System...they have listed the Qx9650, EVGA nForce 780i motherboard, and DDR2-800 memory.

So, if someone had a 780i motherboard, Q6600, and a bunch of DDR2-800 memory...and they upgraded to a Qx9650/Qx9770 (or any yorkfield)....would they need to buy all new DDR3 memory?

the 1333 fsb is for the processor. it is quad pumped

memory is double because it is DDR

so 1333/4 = 333 system bus

you double it 333x2 = 666 you add 1 because 666 is evil and you end up with 667

so all you need is 667 memory

people buy faster memory to OC.

bottomline is: you don't need a 'matching' processor & memory

whatever processor & memory the motherboard supports, you can mix & match any combinations & it will work.
