So my P4 3.4 with HT at home shows to procs rockin in Task Manager. YAY FOR HT!


For Dual and Quad computers, does each core support/run/use a type of HT? Or was that done away with since multi cores was the next step in innovation from the psuedo multi core?
 
Most of todays Dual and Quad core procs do not have HT, with the exception of a few Intel Xeons. HT was a lame attempt by Intel to make up for the inefficiencies in the P4's pipeline .

Not true, HT has very real benefits and is why Atom is using it (despite extra power it will consume). Nahalem is also going to have it. Intel demoed a 8 core system and with HT it shows up as 16 core under windows.

I suspect that Core don't have HT mainly due to it's P3 heritage.
 
HT is like MMX was years past: in reality, it equates to roughly a 10% "boost" in performance for applications that are aware of it (as only MMX-aware applications in the past were the only ones to make use of the instruction set). It's interesting, but in this day and age, really... I have to ask the question again:

How fast is fast?

Crysis at 120FPS at 2560*1600 8xAA 16xAF Ultra?

HT allows CPU to be used more efficiently, many multi threaded programmes can benefit. Especially for In-Order architectures (Atom). It is definitely not as difficult to utilise as MMX.
