processor kinda warm to the touch......

Im using a zalman hsf forgot which one but its a turbine looking one that sits up verticle and has a big green light. Anyways the hsf is kinda warm to the touch. Its not really really hot but just warm.

So im kinda worried...I had this build since May and everything works fine, and still works fine im just scared it may be over heating.

Also is there a program that i can download that works with vista 64 that can tell me the temp of my processor? Ill try to find one through search here.

I may just be getting myself worked up but i want to be sure. No over clock or anything btw...
 
You want the heatsink to be warmish. That means it's doing it's job.
 
i use the program speedfan.

also, in the past i have used as a rule of thumb if you can comfortably touch the hsf for at least 10 seconds without it burning your hand, then its probably fine. if you touch it and want to yank your hand away cuz its so hot, then you have a problem.

Ok downloaded speed fan im reading my cpu temp is -64c is this good or bad? negative good?

Temp1 44c
temp2 39c

core is at 36c
 
I think your sensor is broken. -64 C? Your CPU would be beyond frozen.
 
thats high, idle right? thats really warm for that zalman, so yes i would reapply the thermal paste and make sure the fins are covered in dust, as zalmans have a reputation for doing.

I just installed speed fan ok i have one dark blue temp in my task bar and it reads 44 im guessing that for one core?
 
my cpu heatsink is not that warm to the touch, cpu doesn't run that hot :). nowmy gpu heatpipe, however, :D
 
My hsf is really not that hot to the touch its just kinda warm....

I really need to know what temps im supposed to be looking at theres like 7 temps.

anyway, the taskbar number is usually cpu temp, and 44 would be about exactly what i would expect it to be. id just reboot and go into bios and check cpu temp then report back, sometimes the temp programs are overwhelmed by the ammount of temp sensors a comp has :p
 
yeah bad news.... Well not to bad nothing burned up yet.

Anyways in bios processor is at 50c idle so im guess im going under the hood.....
 
thats not too bad. could be better though. bios loads it a little, so id guess that 44c temp idle wasnt far off. id get a can of air and dust out the hsf fins first.
 
yeah gonna dust it out.... Cpu temps used to be like 32c so this is uncalled for. Glad i came here and im thankful i got speed fan!
 
The best method for you to check your CPU temperatures is with Core Temp. The BIOS readings are not accurate, and Speedfan also doesn't really report temps properly. As long as your idle temps as reported by Core Temp are below 50C and your load temps are below ~65C, you'll be fine.
 
Wow. I just cleaned the shit outa my hsf and case (had a ton of dirt), and my temps now with core temp are about 29c idle on core 1 and like 32c idle on core2.
 
Speedfan always reported wrong system temps for me, you might want to try another program like CoreTemp or Everest.
 
65c for an AMD x2 is suicide. It's not a Core2 chip. 50c at idle is way high for that thing.

Get in there with a shop vac and suck/blow the dust out. See if that helps. If not, try reseating the heatsink with fresh thermal compound. And lastly leave the case open when checking temps, also try blowing a house fan into the case and see if that makes a difference. Might be poor airflow in the case. Make sure all the case fans are working properly, including the PSU fan.
 
K....

Dusted everything out removed hsf dusted out the grill for my huge turbine zalman. Added a bb (well alittle more this time) of arctic silver 5. Put hsf back on plugged in vid card and so on...

And temps now are 32c on core 0 and 33c on core 1 idle with case closed and fans on blowing air out from top and behind case.

This good? Am i good for late night, long session gaming?
