My friend is looking to upgrade his athlon 2650e to whatever he can. (fastest if possible)
The motherboard's model number is WMCP78M. (emachines el-1210-01e)
I've got mixed information from the net but the fastest processor that can be used is the 5050e, correct?
 
Not 100% sure on that motherboard, but the 5050e might just be it. That is an AM2 board, but you might be limited to a 45w processor (again, not 100% sure).
 
One quick question--
Will the stock heatsink for the 2650e work with a 4850e/5050e?

Phenom X4 9100e works, so it takes 65W and first-gen Phenoms at least.

You should be good up to a Phenom 9750, 95-watt edition- at least as far as the motherboard is concerned. Obviously you'll need a better heatsink, as well as to confirm that the included power supply is up to it. Hell, the whole CASE may not be up to it!
