I need to build 4 computers for my office this year. Office apps such as word, outlook and a couple of industry specific apps (Time Matters, Worldox, Billquick, Quickbooks Acrobat full version etc) All of these apps are open at once. I have seen users with 15+ word/pdf's open

Anyway I need a processor that will be viable for 5 years. I know that memory is probably most important but I need a good cpu also. All the builds will be using SSD's and have monitors at 2560x1440 and I will need to use the igp. Budget is not to much of a concern but <200 usd would be best. Thanks

I only can guess 200$ per machine?.. i3 haswell would be my best bet with a cheap H81 Mobo.. you can find awesome deals if you have a Microcenter near..

You could go Intel here, i5 non-k or go amd. Honestly you don't have high cpu usage requirements just memory.

I think you could make a good arguement for an I3 here, but I would seriously consider leaning toward the AMD Kaveri lineup like the 7850K..They have very good iGPUs, which will come in handy as OpenCL continues to pick up pace and you plan on these machines to last 5+ years.

is that one of amds newest chips...never heard of 12 compute cores before...but i can imagine huge cost savings not needing to buy gpus

That's marketing. The chips are quad core CPUs with 8 GPU "compute units". The HSA stuff is cool, but really only going to impact software that's designed to take advantage of it and, for office machines, I suspect that's gonna be slim pickings.

As for saving on not needing to buy GPUs, I can't really imagine the on-board GPU on anything in the current-gen Intel lineup having issues displaying MS Office, Facebook, and Youtube on a single 1440 display. If OP's looking to accommodate multiple displays... Well then the AMD stuff may make more sense. I drive a couple displays from Intel on-board from an i7-3770 at work and it's not really adept at doing that.

Get i5's into those boxes and stuff 'em with 8GB of RAM a pop and those machines will be peachy for sure.

I just built out 6x Intel NUC i5 with 8GB and mSATA SSD for the office. Dual monitors each using the mini-dp / mini-hdmi. Really happy with these. A lot of power and it literally fits in the palm of your hand.

Thanks guys
i5-4590 is what I am probably going to get. 8gb ram and 1TB m550's should do the trick.
