So I just checked on the computer I am folding on. (Since the fan has been screaming at me since I started) I notice the FAH client is pegging the CPU at 100% Is that because it is the only thing running currently? I didn't think it was a massive hog like that. When other programs launch will it ease off a bit so the other program doesn't freak out?

It does use excess CPU cycles. You can set the priority to make sure it plays nice with other programs.

Yep, it's doing super-computer work so thats supposed to happen.

While FAH is set to a low priority by default it will eat up any free cycles your PC gives it when other programs aren't running. There are flags you can set if you're running the standard SMP client to reduce the clients impact on your machine but doing so will cause the work unit to process slower and less points produced.

by default its set to idle priority which means that if say you load a game up that requires 75% of the cpu to play the client will give up whats needed for the game due to the game running at normal priority. if the fan is getting annoying you can set the client to use a specific amount of cores. so say you are running an i7 you can set it to run 4 threads instead of 8 (only do this if you are running standard SMP) or if you are running a quad core set it to 3 cores or 2 cores. you will lose points but the cpu will run much cooler.
