Hey guys, got a little problem.

Ok, i recently decided i wanted to overclock my shuttle sn25p. Specs: In sig.

When i try to overclock above 230fsb it wont even let me past boot screen it says "Please reloading cpu-fsb continue and clear cmos" or something wierd like that. Ok, but when i give it 230 fsb i leave it at stock voltage and give ram 2.7 volts, it works fine till i get into a game and then it starts skipping frames and shit, and i know its not cuz the video card. Then it will freeze sometimes and i have to reboot, and hdd gets corrupted and i have to do a total reinstall. What do you guys think i need to do? Ive tried bumping up cpu voltage when i try to go above 230mhz and i get that same error. Is there some kind of setting i need to disable in bios? Or maybe i need to flash to a different bios or something. Please help.
 
You're problem might be you have the HTT multi set at 5x still, try lowering that to 3x. If that doesn't solve the problem you might need to use a RAM divider as well, set that to the 133MHz setting just to make sure that's not the problem.

That's what I've done so far and I just booted my SN25P up last night with nearly identical specs to yours(see below) and I'm running fine at 280MHz HTT.

yea i set ram all the way dow to 100mhz like i always do when i overclock and go from there, but its still being a bitch, but ill check the htt thing, on my laptop right now waiting for windows to install, fo the 4th time in 2 days :(.
 
I'd be willing to bet that the HTT Multi is the problem then.

Hey, at least it shouldn't take long for windows to install on a beastly machine like that:) I think that it only took me about 20 mins the last time I did it...
 
yea but im using Windows Xp Nemisis Edition, takes about 2x as long cuz all the extra goodies it installs lol

hmm, just put the ht at x3 and still won go above 230fsb, what bios are you using?
 
The "O" BIOS

I would recommend you use it too! The Y BIOS hasn't had enough info out yet for me and I dont have an X2 so there's no reason for me to move to it yet.

O has the best confirmed overclockability of any sn25p bios yet.

Let me know some more about this nemesis edition on winxp when you get a chance though!
 
Windows Nemesis 4 "Titan Edition" Is basically windows xp pro with sp2, but upon install you can choose to install any number of programs that comes with it, such as adware, spybot, paint shop pro, dreamweaver, and pretty much any program you can think of....pretty neat little program, i like it. Oh...can you give me a link to where i can find the o bios or something.

2.7ghz, high as the shuttle lets me take it, stock voltage, yay.
 
LBBLE 0520BPMW ....seems like it could go further, but i would have to have a desktop to really test that, and ram is holding up at 245mhz 3-3-3-8 1t, not bad for value ram
 
do you know of any temp moniters that will work in this thing, mbm5 wont work.
 
Cool, with the little square chips as opposed to the rectangular ones right? They seem to overclock nearly as well as the 16Ts... Haven't tried to OC the RAM yet, still working on the proc.

Do you know what acceptable temps would be? Cuz my proc seems to be getting warm and I'm in very cold AC.

Lastly, did you burn your proc in at all? Just curious...
 
wtf....now its idiling at 30 c, and no i didnt burn it in.
 
How did you keep the load so low?

Mine idles around 30 but on load shoots up to 48... :(
 
well i have my fans on full power, but im gonna undervolt cpu i think, and then lower fan speed
 
Do you have the fan shroud in there with your 7800gtx or did you opt to take it out?
 
i took the shroud out, ok, now its at 1.35 volts, 2.7ghz, staying around 28 idle, 45 tops, also its on mid setting, so its silent, i can hear hdd over fans.
 
Fuck how'd you do that? Mine wont post if I try to go that high... Highest stable FSB I've done so far is 290.... :(
 
lol, i did some modding to the shuttle, and im 25 c idle now.

BTW, I think that I might need to RMA some shit cuz I mighta shorted it out :( Accidentally hit the video card while taking the case cover off! Yikes!
 
i trimmed the metal covers off the back of the case cuz they were restricting airflow, and i put the fans on the cpu backwards so the big fan is blowing into the cpu and the little one is sucking.

that also made the system temp drop about 4 c, and the vid card 8 c, hmm not to bad for something that took about 20 min. Its about 75-80 in my room.

no camera....but if you want a full walkthrough of exactly what i did and what tools i used, let me know.

Heh...i just put fans on full with this new setup, and its actually not to loud, and its idiling at 20'c cpu, 34'c system, 49'c gpu. Load 34 cpu, 43 system, 80 gpu.

But i also raised the volts back to stock, cuz i was having some prime 95 stability issues. So i have a completely stable, cool, overclocked machine now :).

I also oc'ed the video card earlier and its doing good at 499/1.42 and i used ati tool to make sure there were no artifacts....
 
Are you gettin better performance running the RAM slower like that with tighter timings?
 
I doubt it, it prolly got more fps when it was overclocked to 245 3-3-3-8 1t.....but again it was a stability issue or it might have been but i just killed 2 birds with one stone upped the cpu voltage and dropped the ram mhz.
 
Is there any way to test the CPU's max clock without being limited by the chipset? I'm assuming not since the A64 multis are upwards locked but let me know if there's anything...

Also, what did you use to OC your 7800gtx?
 
max clock on the 3000+ is like 3ghz i think, and i used coolbits and ati tool to oc the video card...just scored a 8681 on 3dmark05 :).
