Problems with post speeds on Barton 2500+

sorry , but this is a 2600+


I can only get my barton 2600+ to show 1400~mhz

I have tryed 2 motherboards. Could it be a problem with the CPU?

I have tryed a Albatron KX400-8XV and a ECS K7VTA3

I have a 256MB stick of PC2700 Kingston in there right now

I can get my old 2400+ t-bread to post just fine.

Are these some kind of different settings in the BIOS I have to adjust for the barton? Someone let me know

Make sure that you have it set up for a 166fsb (333). Most motherboards have a jumper on the motherboard for the FSB. My motherboard (See Sig) has basically only one jumper on it - the options are 100,133,166,& 200 FSB). If your changing from an XP2400 (266fsb) and going to a 2600 Barton (333fsb) your going to have to change the jumper.
 
Also make sure your MBs support that CPU and it's speeds. You need to check the web sites for the boards or TS to make sure those MBs support the CPU.

Just checked, looks like the Albatron states it does support Barton but couldn't find any info on ANY of the ECS versions that stated Barton support.
 
Some motherboards just boot the 2500+ @ 100x11 or 133x11 for safety measures. Just change the FSB to 166 and also make sure the jumper is on 333/400 FSB.

never had to do anything with jumpers before except for reset the cmos so that didn't even cross my mind... thanks.
 
Yea, guess I have just been spoiled for the last couple years. Haven't had to mess with any jumpers on my boards except CMOS. I forget some manaufacturers still use old technology.
