I got a used opteron 144 and im having trouble with my computer booting at all. My motherboard is the Lanparty ultra D and was wondering if its maybe a issue with the motherboard, do I need to update my bios to use an opteron on this board? Thanks for any help you can give me, my system wont even go into bios with the chip in.

I havent updated my bios since I got my computer last year, I can get the system to boot now but when I restart I have to clear cmos in order for it to boot up again. Hope the update works, and you can do a bios update using usb now right?

I'd check out DFI-Street for how to flash from USB. Or, I'd grab TMOD's Bios CD, he has created a bootable CD with every bios available. You can flash from that.

Here is the thread.

You'll need to be logged in to see it of course.

it actually wont boot with my xp3000 or with the opteron now, this is just freaking great. I am never buying a dfi board again. I remember it was a pain to get this thing set up in the first place and it wouldnt work right unless the bios was perfectly set.

uhhh, XP3000 is socket A and opterons are 940, 939 and F

what the F is going on here...

and you are a retard if you think the DFI board is not letting you use an opteron... 90% of people over at DFI streets and people who own DFIs run opterons... they are OCing boards and opterons are OCing chips..

something is very wrong here

Calm down. Problem not with DFI it's user error. I'm assuming you have a socket 939 144?

1) Insert A64
2) see that safe boot jumper use it ...not the cmos jumper
3) boot
4) go to dfis site and use winfalsh update to a bios that reconizes opteron CPU string
5) put in the 144
6) safe boot again
7) have fun

Yeah I remember how useless the information was here for these motherboards, I am not retarded but you may be adidas. This is the only motherboard I have ever used where if you dont do things in a certain sequence then it will refuse to boot. and the 3000 is a socket 939. I actually got it to work eventually after reading the dfi forums and finding that right sequence to get everything stable. Some of you may not have had this problem with your boards but with my DFI board it will refuse to boot unless everything is done in a special order. Your info didnt work either tightline and I saw on the boards that opterons arent supported but they do run adidias and quit talking out of your ass about things you know nothing about. I am now running my 144 at 2.7ghz stable thanks to your vast wisdom adidas.... not. Oh yes one more thing dumbshit, learn to read. A64 3000 XP120
that means A64 3000 with an XP120. If it was an xp processor I would have put it before it.

Oh and this will be my last post on this terrible forum. I remember this use to be a place where people could learn from each other now its just a peice of shit because of the crap users. Im sure all the people that made this place cool are also gone now anyways. Well off to a better place for me now.

Dude, calm down. He never personally insulted you. I will admit that I had the same thought when I read it. All he said was that he was confused. And he was defending DFI and trying to make you understand that DFI wasn't your issue. He was bringing up the point that DFI boards are made for exactly what you are trying to do and therefore your harshness is unwarranted.

If you are going to take things like this personally, than perhaps it is you that doesn't belong here.

IIRC, all other user posts above this one were assiting you. So calm down a moment and read the thread again without taking the comments personally. You will find that there are helpfull comments posted here.

Finally, don't post a thread asking a question if you won't answer the questions that others pose towards you. The questions posed are so the others here can get a better understanding of what is going on.

Now, lets start over... What have you done so far and what point are you at? Once we know this, perhaps we can help you along a bit.

What special proceedure did you do? What I did worked for me. I had to borrow a 3200+ from another machine and it worked for me.

I used the nonboot procedure where you have to clear the cmos for 10 minutes in order for it to post, if your motherboard does not boot you have to clear cmos for 10 minutes or sometimes three hours. then when you get into bios you must load optimized settings and then restart and continue tweaking. this is the only board i have used where you have to use such a procedure. I dont appreciate being called a retard when this is the only motherboard i have ever used that requires such strange procedures to even boot, I had to do this when I first bought this motherbaord last year as well. I have built many systems with many other boards and never come across this. The overclocking features of this board arent worth the trouble of the lack of initial stability this board has. Im sure I could get almost the same overclocking results out of almost any other motherboard. I will definitely be looking elsewhere for a motherboard when I do my full system yupgrade next year.

I tried switching the 3000 in and it wouldnt boot with either one until I remembered what I did last year to fix the problem.

dfi arent for the faint of heart, I wil never buy one, now if someone wanted to give me one I would love the chanc to tinker with it. But for my main system dfi will never earn my money. I am an asus man and even now an ati chipset man.

Sorry to hear you've had such a hard time with your DFI board. You are correct... there's no "Official" support for Opterons (server cpu), on DFI (desktop) motherboards. Maybe DFI-Street is where you should have posted your questions initially... what better place to pose a DFI question than on their own forums. DFI is definitely an "enthusiasts" board. Very picky about components and setup proceedure, but once "tweaked", you've wrung out the maximum performance you can get out of the equipment in use. I was a die-hard Abit/Asus fan-boy until I heard Oscar Wu left for greener pastures at DFI (same time Abit's board quality went down the tubes). I too have a LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D, and it took a little more effort (than other Brand 939 boards) to setup, but once I had it dialed in, I was MORE than pleased with the results. My Opty 148 was at 2.97 stable... highest I got with other (Epox, Asus, MSI) s939 boards was 2.73GHz.

If you ever decide to sell that DFI board of yours... try the FS/FT section of DFI-Street forums... it'll sell.

Good Luck

ive got it pretty dialed in now, my processor is running at 2.7ghz. I have been so used to building basic systems with asus that I forgot how to tweak with the DFI, my cmos battery was also dead which didnt help. I should be good to go now with my upgrade to 2 gigs of ram, faster proc with more cache and 7900GS

dude I am not a retard.. you called your 3000 a xp3000 which is socket A

also no desktop board officailly supports opterons... they are server chips and AMD wanted them to go to servers...

therefore your warentee is voided when you use it in a desktop.

I know what I am talking about and got my DFI to run my opteron 144 @2.9 and my 3800 x2 to run @2.6

honestly, if you want help post things right...

no xp3000 when its a 939 3000 64bit...
also DFIs are the best boards for OCing, and its not even a debate. They have the best and most options for vcore and vmem and have the ability to actually set your RAM settings instead of relying on AUTO.

honestly your comment about how your xp3000 wouldnt boot was retarded and wrong.

now i am glad you got it up and running. but really do your read before you get the mobo.

DFI has made a good name for themselves in a short amount of time by having DFI-streets and people like Tmod, and awsome baords. If you dont like it go back to your ASUS and be happy with 1.55vcore max and no vmem over 3.0

I dont understand people like you who rag all over things when you are the one who cant get it to work... thousands of people use DFI boards with opterons and if you are having problems and then CPU and baord are good, then it is user error......

take some time and read!!!!

oh yeah and i think i do know what I am talking about... I mean I do have a DFI and had an opteron 144 and oh yeah mine actually runs :D

It was a typo, R TARD, GTFO

thats fine, but I am not retarded for asking about it..
also its really not a typo, it could be habit. If the OP had an XP3000 for a long time he could have typed it just out of habit, or it could have been a brain fade when the OP just forgot, or i could have been he honestly didnt know that a XP3000 was socket A and that a 939 3000 isnt an XP.. I dont know but when he said it wasnt working i figured i'd ask and find out.

but whatever its really not a big deal... just glad he got it up and running and isnt thinking the baord sucks :)

I wouldnt diss DFI because you had a little booting problem that fast.

my DFI hates running the ram at 2.5 cas.

thats ok because it loves 1.5 cas lol

give that board some time.

Sure, of course you can question it, but you must be a fucking idiot to to call someone a name after a probable typo. If you need clarification, just ask, don't jump the gun and play the name calling card.

** now of course I dont really think you're a fucking idiot, but that just goes to show how meaningless name calling is rude and provocative in an online forum. Especially over the letters x and p.

Does it really matter either way? Everyone has typo's every now and then... damn, I need to really watch my spelling if I could potentially be called a retard!

Congrats Tunabow...keep tinkering. Learning a new board with that many options will take many days/weeks to get dialed in (but thats half the fun right there, for me at least).

This tread has turned sad, and yet kinda funny.

Good luck Tunabow.

the thing is there was no typo, just a misunderstanding that a64 300 xp120 meant A64 3000 with an xp120 heatsink. This board really isnt worth the trouble for what little i did for me in overclocking. It could be i just have a finicky board but im glad its running well now and thats what matters. I can play my games and have fun
