So, I installed my new Barton 2500+ on my Abit KD7. I've got two sticks of Corsair XMS (one's PC2700 and one's PC3200) I'm upgrading from a 2000+ Palomino.

So, I installed it, plugged in the HSF, etc. Turned it on, and it posted at 1100 MHz, so I went into BIOS and set it to the 2500+. It restarted, and my monitor didn't come back up. I reset the BIOS and set the AGP:pCI:FSB ratio. Restarted, and the Video BIOS (just shows "GeForce4 Ti4200" and version number etc, before POST) showed up, but the screen went blank (still on, but blank) instead of POSTing. I'm stuck. Help

your RAM speed is probably screwing with your FSB. take out the 2700 and see what it does

Can you elaborate on what you meant by "set it to the 2500+"? I hope you didn't set it at 2.5 GHz, because I believe the Barton 2500+ runs at 1.83 GHz. What did you set the FSB and the multiplier at?

The BIOS has a setting ("2500+ (333)") for the 2500+ specifically. I also tried setting it at 11*166 manually.

default FSB should be 166 and default Multi should be 11 just so ya know;)

edit: sry you got your post out b4 i could get mine out!

Set RAM at 166, instead of SPD. Windows would boot at 100*11, but not at 166*11.

Clear CMOS and try again. Not much I can say. At least you know what the problem is.:(

You really should try to match the ram speeds. It doesn't matter that it's corsair, if you mismatch the speeds it will cause stability problems.

He already tried that, didn't make a difference.

lukeh182 - your RAM speed is probably screwing with your FSB. take out the 2700 and see what it does

yoda634 - Done. Same issues with just the 3200

reset the CMOS jumper. this will clear and default your BIOS from any wrong settings

there is probably a jumper on the board to go from 133 to 166. your palimino was 133.

once those age changed, go into BIOS and make your changes.

good luck
