Hi I built a new computer last week, and it was working great for the first couple of days, but every time I turned it on it loaded slower and slower until windows would no longer load. I've tried installing windows 3 times now, and every time I get the same problem after a few bootups. The last time I turned it on I got the following error message:

STOP: 0X00000009C ( 0X00000004, 0X8054D5FO, 0X8B2000000, 0X00070F0F)

MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION

I've tried googling it, but haven't gotten anything satisfactory. Please help, I'm getting frustrated and feeling like tossing this thing out the window.

Thanks

Specs?

More than likely a driver issue, or some hardware problem. I know my wireless cards did (and still does) throw the occasional Machine_Check_exception BSOD. But that was a combination of the hardware & a dodgy driver, more than anything. Its also possible that its a hard drive issue, if loading times are getting slower and slower, it may also be corrupting files, or causing hardware errors throwing the exception. But some other details would be nice.

The specs are the same as the one in my sig. A friend of mine thought it could possibly be due to the hard drive being unreliable. I found the following on the web:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329284&sd=RMVP

http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm (9c)

Becaue of this I'm slightly nervous it could be due to a heat issue with the cpu. From what I've read in the mobo forum it seems like my temps are pretty normal compared to most people with the evga nf4 sli motherboard. (Generally around 40c idle); however, the heatsink was a bitch and half to get in place, so that contributes to the what if in my head.

Any good ways to find out what the problem really is. I don't have a computer that I can try the hardware out on. I might have an old hard drive to try, but I hesistant not wanting to potentially damage my cpu permanently. Opinions?

If it were a drivers issue wouldn't I probably notice this within the first couple of bootups?

Its not necessarily a heat issue, I myself would be suspecting a faulty hard drive. Make sure that all your drivers are the latest versions, including chipset, SATA, video, LAN, and any other peice of hardware you have in there. Also, download and run the Ultimate Boot CD. It has a heap of utilities, including hard drive diagnostic software, that could point to a problem somewhere in the system. Recommended tests for this would be memTest, and the Maxtor diagnostic software. Run those if you can, and see what it tells you.

Oh, btw, can you boot into safemode? If not, then it can definatly be classed as a hardware, not drivers issue.

Thanks for the tips, I appreaciate it. The last time I tried I was able to boot in safe mode; however, this has been hit or miss. Something tells me the next few days are going to be trying...

I remember reading somewhere that hard drives shipped in bubblewrap can be problematic. Is this valid, if so why is that? Mine was.

Bubblewrap (Im pretty sure) makes static electricity. Static = bad for computer hardware. If a charge goes through the circuits, it can damage components, maybe thats what going on here. My reasoning so far: The hard drives starts to lose track of the tracks on the HD (pun not intended), causing the slow load times, and possibly missing data that is causing the blue screen. See if you can get a return on the drive, or test it out with the other one you have.
