Ahoy friends.
I have a rather strange problem with my Gateway 450 ROG laptop. I know it's a dinosaur, but the real truth is if I could get it working 100% it would still be more than what I need from a mobile computer. Outside of having to buy a new battery for it a few years ago the thing has been a tank - up until the past year or so.
The issue I've been dealing with is this:
If the laptop has been sitting unused for an hour or so, it will turn on and boot up without issue and function flawlessly. However, if I turn the laptop off and then try to turn it back on without letting it sit unused for an hour or longer it will not post. The same behavior is exhibited if I attempt to restart the laptop (which is the larger source of irritation).
I've tried swapping out the hard drive as well as the memory to no effect. The system does not appear to get overly warm while in-use; and the cooling fans turn on and off while using the laptop, just as they always have since I first bought it. As long as I don't attempt to restart or shut down the system I don't encounter a single issue with it. I can keep it up for days on end as long as I keep plugging it back in before the battery dies.
I'm at a loss. Anyone have any ideas?
