Problems with my 7800GTX

I just built my new system with a factory-overclocked XFX GeForce 7800GTX. However, in game graphics look extremely good for a while, but then after a little bit of play-time, they become glitchy. Not sure how to describe it, the textures jump around. I can still play fine with this issue, its just annoying as hell. I'm using World of Warcraft to test this, but its happening with other games as well. I downloaded newest drivers for all my hardware. Do you think its a video card issue, or something else? What do you suggest I do? Thanks!

Also, and I'm not sure if this is related, when I first installed my system I did it with another standard-pci video card that I had. After installing windows, I put in my 7800GTX. Now, when I boot up my computer, windows won't start up unless I keep in the previous video card, even though I disabled it in the device manager. Unless I set the bios main VGA card to be a second video card (not the 7800), windows wont boot. So basically the only way I can use the 7800GTX is by having another video card in the system. Weird, huh?

sounds like an overheating issue, especially if everything starts out looking "ok" and then, after a period of time playing, it starts to artifact.
 
I dont think its overheating, I never see it get past 68 degrees celsius, and graphics problems start happening around 60 degrees. Should I send it back?

Also, any idea what's causing the bootup issue?
 
use a fan control thingie to make those fans spin like hell.

How cum everybody think their CPU is too hot when it's 45C but they let their GPU COOK LIKE A MUTHERF****ER @ 65~75C and then wonder WTF?!?!?!?11111one :D

Send it back, you shouldn't have to deal with that with any new card.

might be cooling based on what u say. remember the temps readouts aren't especially reliable. I would take off the stock cooling and thermal pads and replace the pads with Arctic Silver Ceramique.
 
Agreed with Adam, don't deal with that shit, RMA the card and hope you get better luck this time. Also, sometimes MSI boards OC video cards without telling you, make sure that setting is off because the additional stress might cause that stuttering you speak of.

Because GPU's can take a lot more heat than CPU's can before they have problems. A 7800GTX should be able to go well into the 70's C and still work well. Heck, the default alarm temperature setting for the card in the driver is 115C.
 
Thanks for all the good advice, guys! I will call Newegg tomorrow and RMA it. I'll also look into the possible built-in video card overclock in my MSI board, but I didnt see anything about it in the bios...
