Hello,

I recently aquired 3 old school p1 boxes, out of the 3 there are 2 I want to use, but, I am having some problems with one of them.

It is a compaq deskpro 4000, I am having a hard time getting into the bios, I want to drop in a larger hard drive and throw win2k on it, but, if I can't get into the bios, I can not upgrade the hard drive:(

I have googled, and, it seems that f10 is suppose to be the bios key, it does nothing for me.

I have tried esc, f1, f2, del, alt+esc, alt+ctrl+esc, alt+enter, but, nothing works.

I did not see any jumpers on the board that would prohibit access to the bios.

I got these computers from a school that was going to throw these out, right now, I am playing with the pentium pro box.

Ideas?

Looks like I will have to get the partition repaired then huh.

I notice one fo the first things that these do when you power them up is read from floppy.

Now, to find the floppy images for these units.

Is there a way to tell what unit is which?

I have a 4000 and a 2000 series, but, I notice there are model numbers like 4200 and such. I did not see a sticker on the computer that said what specific model it was.

you never said you tried F5, have you tried F5? thats what i have to use to get into my bios

well, using the disks that compaq proggy gave me, I can boot from them and get into the bios, it would not create disk 3 for me, I have to have disk 3 in order to install the partition, me and my friend played with it trying to put the files on the disk, it won't boot from it, and it has to be booted form to make it work.

Oh well, I got one of the boxes running now so it is not a big deal, but, it would be nice to be able to push f10 to get the bios..
