Problems with integrated graphics..

Ok, this is for a friend. He's been having this problem, but I can't seem to figure it out.

He's trying to play a new game out, and although the graphics are nothing amazing, it still requires DX9. When he tries to play, it says,

"Could not initialize Direct 3D. Please ensure that DirectX 9.0 or higher is installed."

Checking the DXDIAG, it says he has DX9.0b installed. When trying to installed DX9.0c, he get's this error,

"A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted."

He's redownloaded it like 10 times, and it still won't install. He's running XP SP2. It's a two year old Dell, and he never splurged for a graphics card I guess.

At any rate, if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it!

It shouldn't matter. You can install the DX9c runtime even though it isn't DX9c compatible.

I'd try Googling for an answer on that one. Just search the error message and someone will probably have a solution for you. It might be a registry setting or something.
 
Doh, I should have googled to begin with. I found a bunch of things we could try. Thanks for the help!
