Problems with HDTV

I just got a new HDTV, a 46" Panasonic Projection, and I cannot seem to get my computer to run it at 1920x1080. I have a Radeon 9700 Pro (with DVI) and I have a DVI cable going from the computer to the tv. However, when I select the tv as a monitor it only allows me to run it at 640x480. I know my gfx card has the capability of running at 1080i and the monitor says max resolution is 1920x1080 in the windows Display Properties->Settings->Advanced->Monitor->Properties Window, but have not been able to set it at the proper resolution. Does any1 know how I might fix this?

if you have it connected via the dvi, you should not select tv output... select dvi output.

You may need to buy the DVI-I to Component adaptor from ati's site. This just plugs into your DVI port on your computer and then you use component cables to connect it to your tv. The DVI port on the tv isnt really made to be used by computers and it takes some work to get it to work because you have to deal with timings and stuff on top of the resolutions.

I've had a similar problem with my HTPC setup. I have the ATI 8500le with the VGA to YPrPb Adapter. The only resolution that works is 640 x 480. I try to run at 1920 x 1080 the TV flickers like its changing resolutions then shuts off (protection feature).
I have tried selecting HDTV complant resolutions/refresh rates via PowerStrip, still nothing. I have also used a straight RGB cable as my HDTV does not have DVI input.

I'm running the 9800 A-I-W in my main PC. I'll probably try messing with it sometime this week, maybe my results will be better since it has native support for HDTV.

Any help is really appreciated!!

Guys i cant tell you exactly what to do because my Component adaptor is in the mail but here are some pages that i looked at for info. These guys seem like they know what is going on :D .

Custom powerstrip timings for hdtvs
How to set widescreen resolutions for various games
Some more 4:3 resolution timings for HDTV's

keep in mind you will probably want to use a timing that your HDTV displays natively. Notice that the 3rd link gives 640x480 in a 540p timing, while the first link give 640x480 in a 480p timing. If your tv is one that takes a 480p input source and coverts it to either 540p or 1080i then just use the 640x480 in a 540p timing because it skips a conversion step. This will provide better image quality. Just mess around with it a bit.

tell me if this helps.
peace.
