I cant set the FSB over 166 (stock) or the system crashes.

Mobo: GA-7N400 PRO2
CPU: Athlon XP 2800+ Barton
Ram: 1 Stick 512 Corsair Value Select PC 2700
GPU: Nvidia Geforce FX 5700 Ultra
 
that corsair has heat spreaders on doesnt it? see what happens with a vdimm increase

No it does not.

Try to increase the FSB but run the RAM asynchronously. If you are able to overclock then, it is likely to be a RAM problem.
 
your ram is pc2700... and you can't get it above 2700 (166)... loosen the timings on the ram, or up the ram voltage..
 
I tried to up the ram voltage and nothing worked.

How do I loosen the timings? I did a few quick searches to no avail...
 
look in BIOS. there should be some options concerning ras, cas, etc. try loosening the,. higher numbers = looser.
 
Does your processor allow you to increase your multiplier? If it does, that would overclock the processor without the RAM.
 
^ I can't increase the multiplier.

I couldnt find anywhere in bios for memory timings.
 
there has to be a way to change your ram, at least to a small amount... it probably says that it is set my SPD.. see if you can toggle the spd, to optimal or something.. and there might be a manual setting which will then let you change the timings..

Ah... By SPD.. Yea, that worked. I moved the FSB up from 166 to 175 and It actually didnt crash!!!!!! When I thought memory timings I was thinkign those separate numbers liek 4-4-4-4 or whatever (I dont know shit about memory, well I dont know MUCH about comp's in general but I really lack knowledge on memory. I'm still learning. :))

I'm going to keep messing with it, probably going to move it up to 200mhz tonight and then just monitor the heat and play some games, possibly Ill run prime95 overnight.

I was thinking about forgetting OC'ing, but just that post kept me motivated and now it worked... I'm pretty sure I'm hooked. Thanks for taking time with my noob ass and spawning another OC'er.

I'm sure I'll continue posts in this thread because I'm sure I'll run into more problems or something, but thanks for the help thus far to all of the replies in this thread.
