problems with crashing

i have a geforce 3 ti 500, and my system keeps crashing whenever i play a game...

when it reboots, the windows error reporting thing says its a problem with the video card driver, but i have the newest ones from the site, so i don't see how that would be...

anyone have any ideas?

Having the latest driver is no guarantee of perfect stability. You may actually have to go back to an earlier driver. Than again, even with a flawed driver, all your games shouldn't crash. Do any games run properly?

Download one of the nvidia driver cleaners such as nvclean or one of the others from guru3d.com. Uninstall the driver via add/remove programs, then run the cleaner program. Download an old driver from guru3d.com such as the 29.42 driver and install it. Make sure antivirus is disabled when installing the new driver.

Are you using the Forceware? Don't use anything newer than 45.xx series Detonators for GF4 and below..

i tried reinstalling windows and it's still screwing up, so i'm gonna go back to the det's as joe suggested...

are there any other reasons this might be screwing up? hardware related maybe?

Yeah, I really wish Nvidia would acknowledge the fact that the Forceware drivers are just for Fx series and up. Before I got my 9800 I tried using Forceware drivers with a Ti4200 and had weird problems and outright crashes when trying to change some of the settings in display properties. Windows update will even suggest a Forceware driver update for a TNT card because it only detects Nvidia.

well it's still just crashing away, im using the 29.42 drivers right now and the comp just randomly reboots when im playing hl, same as it used to
