problems with a 56k winmodem

I have a agere winmodem in my sb51g xpc with xp pro. When i log on and try to connect to internet an error message pops up in the dailup thingy saying it cannot find diatone.Yet when i hit the redial it goes through right away as it should. can anybody help me with this this is starting to annoy me:mad:
 
Your phone line is not sending dialtone fast enough when hooked up the first time so that the modem "gives up" waiting for it and returns an error. The subsequent times its response time is better so the modem works just fine.

This is quite common here in Brazil.

Try adding "," (in some cases ".") one or two times before the phone number that is to be dialed.
