Problems when using DVI, please help!

I just ordered a Acer AL2416Wd. It came via UPS, perfect condition, ripped it out of the box. Even bigger and better looking than I imagined.

I hooked it up via DVI and turned on the computer. Nothing. Just stayed in power save mode until the computer finished booting and arrived at the login screen. Everything looked good. So I logged in, configured the resolution and proceeded to log into WoW. Right off the bat I could tell the computer was struggling, the Undercity loaded and I was getting about 4fps. I moaned in agony. I don't have a bleeding edge system

but it can run most things at max settings, except for F.E.A.R. Certainetly should be able to run WoW just fine. So then I tried CS: Source, at first when I loaded it, it went into power save mode, so I alt-tab'd back to desktop and tried to alt-tab back, I got the game screen menu. Cheers. Loaded up a server and started playing. I usually get 70-90fps at 1280x1024 and I was getting only 20ish. Brutal. Tried to bring up the console and it went into power save again and I could not alt-tab out, just had to shut the computer off. I was thinking that I was going to have to return this and be out the restocking fee. So I tried VGA. Turned it on. Sure enough, MSI Platinum BIOS screen, booted into windows. Screen qual looks identical to what the desktop looked like under DVI. Loaded up WoW, worked fine, maybe 3-5fps less at 1920x1200, but still gourgous. Loaded up CS:Source, 60-80fps. Loaded BF:2, also fine. Ran through my whole list of games and they all worked fine. So what is the prob with DVI? Is it Catalyst? VGA is nice, but it means my 19in CRT stays dark 4 inches to the right of my 24"LCD. Help please, you are my only hope!
 
Well, thanks for nothing. I ended up using the VGA to DVI converter that came with the card to connect the 19in CRT. So now I have sweet duel monitor goodness. WoW at 1920x1200 and chat/firefox/ts/homework on the other. . .

I really would like to know why there were such problems with DVI . . . oh well.

I do not have a solution to this problem, but I have experienced the same problem WITH the same card.

The only thing I could tell you is to visit the following document on ATi's website (https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894) and see if any of those fixes it.

My brother had the same card as you (Sapphire X800 256MB) and experienced the same thing with his Viewsonic VX924 monitor on DVI port. He ended up RMAing the monitor but the same thing happened with the new one. In the end, he just ended up buying a new video card (7800GT) and has never looked back.

Hope the problem gets fixed.
