Problems setting up raid with single SSD OS drive...

Set up a raid 0 with 2 spinpoint f3s on my crosshair iv, along with my single Vertex 2 as the OS drive.

I had to set all sata ports to RAID, otherwise only ports 5-6 can be set to IDE with 1-4 set in RAID.

So my question is, why are all my single drives showing up as SCSI drives in device manager? Also, my raid is as well. Any other drives I hot swap detect as scsi also.

Is it ok to be running the vertex 2 in raid mode through bios? And if it's showing up as scsi, will that give me a performance hit?

Ran atto disk bench for my raid setup, Vertex 2, and a samsung 320gb 7200rpm notebook drive....

Vertex 2 speeds seem "ok"

but... my spinpoint f3 raid 0's write speeds are extremely off...

and lastly, the samsung notebook drive...

The SSD shouldn't be set up as IDE anyway, but AHCI. RAID means AHCI for solo drives.

Still, you have a big problem, but I'm not familiar with your motherboard (that you didn't mention).

Bios options only allow me to either use 1-4 as raid and 5-6 as ide or 1-6 as raid.

No options for AHCI/RAID combo.

The SSD (Vertex 2) is set up as Raid on sata port 1. It is my understanding that trim and all the fancy SSD stuff is implemented through windows anyway....

But, those speeds I'm getting on the mechanical drives are puzzling. I just reverted everything back to AHCI and speeds are back to normal. Spinpoints averaging around 130-read/write.

Tried installing again with raid and back to the same issue. SSD is fine, but the raid is slow as crap. (writing)
