I recently built a new computer for my girlfriend. I've stress tested it thoroughly and haven't had any hardware related problems until yesterday. The temps in the machine have never exceeded 43Celcus at 100% load.
Here is the problem. All of a sudden none of the USB ports on this machine work, and Windows reads the machine having 3 to 4 USB controllers saying I have somewhere around 16 - 20 USB ports available. The only PnP devices I had plugged into the machine were a USB jump drive, external HDD, and Printer. What had me a little worried was when I went to pull out the jump drive (SanDisk Cruzer Titanium), it was HOT to touch. I plugged all of those devices into another machine and they worked just fine. I also want to mention that none of these problems happened, or at least I wasn't aware of them, until I plugged the new jump drive into the machine.
Here are the specs on this machine.
P4 3.0 Northwood
1 Gig of Crucial PC-3200
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
ANTEC Performance Plus Case with 430W Power Supply, Model "PLUS1080AMG"
ATI 9800 Pro 256MB
WD 80 gig Sata HDD
If more specs are needed please tell me.
I've reset the bios settings to their stock settings, I had USB legacy disabled still no luck. I have also NOT OC'ed anything on this machine. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.
