Problems Logging Into Aim

Hello everyone, I have a pc with windows xp and the latest version of aim but i cant get it to log in. My network consists of a cable modem with a firewall and a router and two pcs. I tried adding the ports in the cable modem but i still cant seem to get it to work and im pretty sure my software firewall isnt blocking it either. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
 
First, uninstall the AIM client and download Pidgin. (probably not the problem, but the official AIM client is trash)

You shouldn't have to forward any ports on your router, at least I have never had to ... ever.

I would try disabling Windows Firewall first just to see if that helps.
