Problems installing BFG GTX 295

His system is posting just fine. What I was suggesting was to see if it would push a signal in safe mode.

He doesn't have any video display.....so it would be hard to know when to press F8.

The only real evidence he has of POSTing is some sounds.

I believe I did make into safemode....

But I can't be sure, because the moniter was blank.

I am totally stumpted, card is going back.

I would get a new motherboard, BUT I cant be sure the card isnt bad in some way.

The 2.0 PCI-E is backward compatible, so I shouldn't have a problem going into Windows.

My board is SLI, and, according to BFG, I should not put it into "SLI config" with only one card.

All I can do it return the card. Unless they can demonstrate to me at the store that it works on a different board...but I don't think that they will do that.

Sucks though, $440 was an incredible price. It was the only card in the store LOL

IT DOESNT POST
Actually, he said it does post just fine...it just does not display any video..so safe mode may or may not help. ..but its worth a try for sure

EDIT: I see I'm late to the party..:)

Just because the power supply is rated for 750 watts doesn't mean that your power supply is working as it should. I suggest picking up a cheap power supply tester to insure it is giving you a reliable 750 watts.
You can get a tester for about 20 dollars.

haha my apologies, so many threads...and i had just woken up. sorry symptomsreagent!

i guess what i meant to say, was if he cant even see the bios screen, i doubt safe mode would help.

The power is fine. The card has a test light right on it. If the power were incorredtly set up or insufficient I would get a "red light".

Did I mention the PSU is brand new?

Hence why I didn't really get worked up over that. ;)

I was just curious if he could get into safe mode as it sounded like he was getting into windows out without any issues and usually safe mode can help figure out if something may be funky with the card.

However... from the sounds of it--- it's probably a bad card.

You people need to read the thread... He heard people IM'ing HIM IN STEAM. How on earth could the PC not of passed POST if that was happening. Seriously, RTFT.

Criccio-- Chill man. He clarified that it wasn't showing anything on the monitor and simply slipped up on the verbiage. No harm as I knew that wasn't the case.

I returned the card. Micro Center issued a full refund.

My take on this...

This is just a theory, but I am wondering if a one of the GPUs had issues. The one working GPU allowed the system to POST and boot etc... But with the one bad GPU it was unable to function properly...

Just a theory, no way to really know... Wierd and frustrating though.

Micro Center is the bomb. Too bad they didnt have another 295 in stock.

Oh and one last tidbit....

Since I flashed my motherboard's BIOS it wont OC.

What a weekend, have to fiddle with that another time...I am worn out now.

Suckage.
Oh well watch the superbowl.:D

a similar issue happened with my 9800gx2, and i fixed the issue by trying it in a different pci port. if you get a new card and the same thing happens, try that. could be a bad port on the mobo.

Unfortunetly not all of us have mobo's with multiple PCI-e x16 slots. But if he does then yea, i agree.

wait so you were running with both the 295 and 8800 at the same time?

ok sorry, i forgot for a minute it was dual gpu, and thought by one of the gpus u meant u had both CARDS together. nevermindd

I appreciate the suggestions, but the moniter was turned off and turrned on, unplugged etc. many times over.

:)

ANd yes, I took the card back.

Rev--- I would suggest shoot a PM to the mods to have this thread looked up as your going to have tire kickers coming by to give their two cents on this thread. Just a suggestion.
