Problems getting video signal at boot - new PC

I finished building a new computer on Saturday night, worked fine through about 10 restarts. Downloaded the latest Geforce drivers. This morning I go to boot up, and I get no signal to the monitor. Checked all the connections, nothing lose. I press reboot on the machine and it all goes back to normal and works fine.

Now, half the time I boot up, I won't get a signal, and the computer speaker will NOT beep at startup. The rest of the time I boot up, it will start up fine, and the computer speaker DOES beep.

My specs:

Asus A8N-SLI
512x2 Corsair Dual Channel DDR
Maxtor 200 GB SATA HD
BFG 6800GT OC
Pioneer 16x DVDRW
AMD Athlon 3500+
BFG 550 watt PSU that came with the 6800GT
Asus Star Ice HS/F
Arctic Silver Ceramique compound

My monitor is about 3 years old - a 17" Samsung CRT. I'm hoping it's an issue with the monitor and not the video card. The video card works perfectly outside of this issue. I plan on getting a new monitor within a week.

I would be grateful for any advice. thanks

It's the most annoying thing isn't it, your monitor doesn't flick from power saving mode to on.

What I've found is that sometimes your video card is just loose in the socket, so take it out, clean the connector with an eraser and push it fully back in doing the screw up tight.

hope this helps

I will check to make sure the video card is in all the way - that may be part of the problem as I didn't force it down very much at all.

Could it also be that I have such an old monitor?

Not if this is true: "Now, half the time I boot up, I won't get a signal, and the computer speaker will NOT beep at startup."

No beeps = no POST

I've been having this problem, too. I was able to deal with it, and thought it was just a bad video card. (I use this pc mainly to capture video, and the pc would restart sometimes when I would start a capture.) So I replaced the video card with a $200 monster, and I still had the boot problem. Usually if I try 6-8 times, I can get it to boot right; otherwise, I just get a few clicks. I'm now assuming it's RAM. I will replace that and see.

If you can, try the video card in another computer or try another monitor with the video card. My assumption is that it's either the PSU or Motherboard f'ing up, but I think it's a good idea to take the vid card and monitor out of the equation.

your giving me the creeps man.... i just logged on to report the exact same problem on my 6800 gt oc. it stoped working all togeather this morning. though its been having the weird restart problem for the last year; ive been putting up with it because i usually dont restart my comp more than a couple times a month. i am trying to get ahold of bfg to redeem theit lifetime warranty deal, but it seems theit customer servis phone line is useless. so im going to email them later today.
