Wow...right now, I'm on the brink of killing something....ANYWAY: to what you care about....

I just put my watercooling back in, and I'm having major problems. One being random restarts. I'll be doing NOTHING, and *WHAM* restart. Another problem is programs just randomly crash. Its everything, AIM, IE, Opera, etc. I tried updating Steam, and it randomly restarted.

Please help! If you need any more specs or anything, I'm willing!

Sounds like a PSU problem, I don't see why a hard drive problem would cause your computer to randomly reboot.
 
well, my PSU is a brand-spakin-new Fortron 530w....dunno if that would still be a problem...any other thoughts? I was directed to heat-related issues....thoughts?
 
Well did your problems start after you put in the PSU or before? If so, you might have a RMA eligible PSU. I don't see why a heat issue would reboot your rig unless there is some failsafe settings in bios relating to temps. Try looking through your bios and cautiously deactivate your failsafes to see if that helps.

Also, I had a computer do that to me once but I traced it to bad RAM. If you are putting your WC back in, did you have everything apart before? How about some history here?

If you did, perhaps something got a nice jolt of static. Sounds like a strange problem. And I feel your pain, really, its frustrating as fuck trying to trace a problem when you have no fuckin clue why things do what they do. Hang in there.
 
well, the first thing we need is what kind of temps you are running on cpu and case.

Second, download something that can give you some readings on your psu. Something like sisoft sandra (free)

How long will it run before it shuts down generally?

EDIT: Uh... that would be temp readings on your CPU not PSU, sorry.
 
I've had my comp reboot plenty of times from heat issues. It does NOT sound like a good idea to go deactivating all your fail safes to see if you can torch your system. Check your temps first. probably something isn't seated well... You could also just temporarily go back to air cooling to see if the problem persists.

..or maybe something is blocking water flow...
 
thanks guys....i tried reseating my GPU block because i thought that could be a problem...to answer all your questions....it happened after the new PSU went in...as for the RAM, it was working fine before....and i hope to god not static :eek:...and it runs perfectly fine w/o any programs running, but sometimes they just close....CPU the probe was reading around 40*C, which seems too high....I'm almost positive i seated the block right and put the right amount of thermal compound, but i guess i can't be too sure....and its not hard to take off the block w/o dismantling system...and i'll get the readings for the PSU...i'm almost 100% positive that nothing is blocking flow because i'm getting some turbulence in the res.....but i could be wrong....

well, i'm gonna try the GPU and then check out the PSU! thanks!

any more suggestions/help would be great!

not likely to be the psu unless you have a serious amount of junk in there, by which i mean 4 xeons and a wildcat graphics card. then you would be worrying.

sounds like the comp's got something funny in there. hmmm... just on a hunch:

pull the psu out (w/o detaching it from the comp), turn the comp on, and give the psu a good rattle.

i'll explain after you do it.
 
well, i reseated the GPU block...and it helped a lot, but not as much as i would have liked...but then, AVG (anti-virus) said that it found a virus in the NORTON FOLDER??? :eek: wth?? so, i'm running a virus scan and that should fix some stuff...i'll post up again with temps/rails/etc...

6 viruses so far....
 
yeah, either that or temp problems...thanks for the help....i'll tell you what works...i'm probly gonna get another HDD soon anyway...80GB isn't cutting it...

would i be safer to wait till i get a SATA-compatable mobo before getting a HDD just to future-proof myself and have it be faster?
 
from what i understand, you will either see no difference (except for access speed), or the difference will be too small to notice.
 
well, access speed is really a big thing...but w/e...i'll stick w/ IDE for now, unless i want a raptor :D
