Wasn't sure where to post this, but seeing as it is pretty much an overclock issue it'll be fine here.
My rig is in my sig

Problem 1a:
System is no longer prime stable @ current overclock of 3.96Ghz, though it was when i reached this final overclock but now it wont even last 15minutes without freezing in prime95. Nothing has changed in the passed month in regards to overclocking apart from the 4870. I have tried increasing the vcore a notch but tna.

Problem 1b:
System will lock up when running F@H on the GPU (4870) then the screen will go blank, as it would do being on the GPU and all (and one thread on the CPU). The system will also lock up in CoD 4 and 5 sometimes, no artifacts.

Problem 2:
Unable to reach clocks above 800/1100 on the 4870 without tests locking up eventually (the majority of the time it will lock up with no sign of artifacting but fine at 800/1100 using rivatuner). You may think "but that's an ok overclock and they dont all overclock the same blah blah blah" but this is a xpertvision dual bios 4phase power huge heatsinked 4870 512mb which on auto fan setting will never go above 65c @ 66% fan, on 75% it wont see anywhere above 60c and averages at 55c. So i was expecting more, say around 850 core.

Tonight, when i get home from work, im going to drop the overclocks and test on stock, then overclock just the 4870.My question is though, why would this suddenly happen? I have never come across this before. I can only think of it being a power issue, but 700watts of OCZ power would handle all this nicely and voltages are pretty damn accurate (using the ASUS software).
Any thoughts?
 
My guess would be the motherboard.

Also might help to put a meter on the PSU, make sure it's putting out consistant voltage.
 
its actually a problem thats been going on for a while with ATI cards and overclocking.. though no ones been able to pinpoint what the actual problem is.. though the issue could be the pci-e bus settings but i really wouldnt see how that could cause the problem.. ya might have to do a little research on google.. see if you can find any one else running into problems with ati cards and the i7 overclocking..
 
Eeek, hope it's not the motherboard. Strange that it's just when the systems under some stress, i mean, i can play CS:S until the cows come home and it's fine but high quality games that stress the system are a bit iffy.Hmmmm

Ah really? I never heard of any issues like this.
I will see how i get on tonight and will google issues like mine.
 
ya know.. just for shits and giggles.. try disabling the hyperthreading.. and see if it'll run.. if it does then maybe we can tie it down to some voltages that are incorrect after that..
 
I have solved this problem by increasing ICH/IOH voltages a notch :). Also solved the problem where the sound would immensely distort when loading a game.
