At the church where my dad works, one of the office computers running windows me started having problems a couple weeks ago. The people that have used it have done nothing that wasnt ordinary for them on it, other than windows update. When the computer is being used, the active process will just seem to pause, like a temporary freeze. Its like a cycle, 10 seconds good, 60 seconds frozen, etc. Ive run Adaware and Macaffee Stinger on it, as Ive seen several computers do that that had the Welchia virus or spyware on it. The computer has Norton antivirus, I'm pretty sure that its fully updated but will check on that today.

Any suggestions on how to fix it? I would request solutions that require as little money as possible (DONT SAY winme suxxors switch to linux etc. ), but if necessary we can do something like that. Right now, I'm just thinking reinstall winme over the old version.

TIA

First, do the full scale antivirus scan thing. If Norton's not updated, do so. If subscription has run out, try the online scans at Trendmicro.com and Pandasoftware.com.

Also, this could be a resource thing. I've experienced it with Windows ME where if you deplete its system resources, it tends to whine and keeps pausing intermittently.

Otherwise, I must say Windows ME does suck, and format C: if worse comes to worse.

Winme sucks. Use 98SE. FAR superior.

I thought about the win98se thing. First of all, they dont have any extra 98se licenses sitting around, and I couldnt see buying it in a day and age like this. I dont think that computers too old (gateway 4400 series maybe, from when P4 was announced days, fast p3?), so if I was to buy an OS it would be 2k or xp.

I don't think its a resource thing, the lady that usually uses it does like powerpoint and a bunch of audio stuff on it (midi stuff, etc) and this just started out of the blue. Its too regular to be page file thrashing, it just happens like 10 seconds after you start a program. (explorer, anything). After end tasking whatever it is thats running, it runs fine for another 10 seconds.

Thanks for the help yall. I guess I'm still looking for somebody taht knows something about a windowsupdate update for ME that causes thigns like this. Also, do you think it would be a good idea to run windows update at this point? Its been a couple weeks since this happened.
