problem with the altec ahs201 headset

hey guys, I just bought this today... and when I plug the pink wire in, and go to the windows sound recorder program... it does nothing. the headphone speaker works but the microphone does not.
 
just tested the mic on another comp. it has to be my settings on this computer. plz help
