Problem with starting up computer

Hi, every time i start up my computer now, it only gets as far as the windows loading screen.

When windows is done loading, it proceeds to a black screen for a minute or two, then to a blue screen "error", "dumping physical memory", ect.

Has anyone had this problem before or has a suggestion to hep me alleviate it? If so, thanks in advance :)

Edit: Oh, and safe mode doesn't work either.

The code is c0000218 [Registry File Failure]
Redgistry cannot load the (hive) file:
\Sysyemroot\system32\config\software

With my amazing powers of deduction and computer know-how, im guessing i have a virus of some sorts perhaps?

It would be nice if there was a way to get into windows to do system restore instead of having to reformat and lose everything.

You may, but it's 99% not likely. It's not able to load the registry. I had this problem before when I was a tech for my school, I'll find the article in the knowledge base that covers how to take care of it. If I'm not able to, you just search the KB at MS for that stop code.

***EDIT***

Oh, and this fix would not require reformatting. At least from what I remember. :D
