Problem with Sapphire 9600XT crashing

I just built up a system for a friend with an Athlon 64 2800, Asus A8n board and a Sapphire 9600XT, all in an Antec case. Everything seems to work perfectly fine, except, when playing games, there are some random crashes that invoke the VPU recovery, they are after a good bit of gaming normally, so I am assuming that it's a heat issue, but the system toold on the card properties say that the temperature is sitting at 40C, which doesn't seem too hot.
It never crashes on the desktop, I have tried all driver variants, there is no artifacting before the crash, just a lock up followed by the VPU revovery, in all games and D3D games (Not sure about OpenGL)
I ran RTHDRIBL and 3dmark 05 no problems, so I am at a loss.

I have the almost exact same set-up, except for a ABIT KV8 Pro mobo.

When I first put together the system, I too had the same problem. Here's the troubleshooting I did to fix it:

-Un-installed Catalyst Control Center
-Make sure Overdirve wasn't truned on.
-Set the AGP to 4x **This will not decrease performance***

I trolled the Sapphire boards and many other people had the same problem, so you can go there to find solutions too.

That set-up you have is great. It took everything I threw at it and came up looking great, HL2, Doom 3, Rome Total War, pair that set-up with a gig of good RAM and you have a sweet little system for less that $700.

Good Luck
