Problem with Samsung LCD

Someone called me saying their monitor was very dark. I went over, tried a different video card and some other things and figured out it is the monitor. It is very very dark and the whole screen flickers, gets brighter darker. It is about a year and a half old and from what they said it was working fine, they went out of town and when they came back and powered on it was having the problem. Anyone have any ideas as to what it might be?

sounds like a backlight issue
