Problem with RAID on new mobo

i just got a new abit nf7s , when i try to do raid, i set up the raid, then i format them, then it restarts and right before it goes to the installation the screen just turns black and does nothing. So i thought maybe its a bad hardrive. so i just plugged one hardrive into the primary SATA connector then formatted and then it went perfectly into windows installation. then i did the same thing with the second hardrive on the primary SATA connector and it went right into the windows installation. so its not the hardrives. so then again i tried the raid setup and it just stayed at the blackscreen. Why can't i get my computer to do RAID? Do you think that the secondary sata connector might have a problem?

Edit: I tried putting a single hardrive on the secondary sata connector to see if it would boot and it did, so its not the secondary sata.
 
anybody, i can set it up without raid, but its stupid not being able to use all the features
 
when the computer is off is a red LED light suppost to be on, and when u turn the computer on the red light stays on with a green LED that comes on?
 
mine does that too...

i had trouble installing windows on my raptor too.. try moving any IDE cables as far away as possible.

also, are you OCing. when i tried installing, and i was oc'd when windows installer tried accessing the SATA, my comp would shut down. try backing down on the OC

download the tools for your disks and run some tests on them (extended for WD, burn in for maxtor. dont know what seagate uses.)
 
during the initial load did you hit f6 and load the Sata/raid drivers ...just enabling it isnt enought
 
i have all ide cabels unpluggled except for cd-rom. and i also did hit F6 and it installed the Silicon SATA driver thing.
 
also, first i tried installing it as stock speeds, then i tried it with an OC, and it didnt work, so im at stock 2600+ speeds and still no luck
 
k i have an update, i went into DOS and i did checkdisk. i did the code chkdsk /p. the 2 drives that i didnt have windows installed on where fine. then i did the main hardrive wich i have windows installed on right now. it said chkdsk found one or more errors on the volume. so then i do chkdsk /r to try to repair them. it took like 30 min to complete. i restart and check that hardrive again for errors and it still said it found errors. windows is working fine on the hardrive. do u think this is why RAID isnt working?
 
im now discorvering it only says i have errors half of the time i do checkdisk on that drive
 
I had a similar issue, and even boot the drives non raid as storage using my ide drive as the os partition. XP looked at the drives and said they were fine.Well they were not , at least as boot drives.

I ended up rmaing the drives and once I got the new ones things went just fine.


By the way, if your using an onboard raid they can be a little finiky.

Try this: when you do the f6 on os install and provide the floppy let it do its thing. It will then ask if you have any other 3rd party devices say yes and provide the floppy a second time. Windows will say "windows allready has a driver for this device keep or use the one your providing , say use the one your providing and let her rip.

I ran into an issue that was resolved by going that method on the ICH5R controller.
