problem with Radeon 9600 aiw

Ok so i've got this friend that's had his 9600 for about 1 year now. Lately he's been having problems with his games. After playing for about 30 minutes, and sometimes even sooner, his screen just goes completly black and he can do nothing. After restarting, the same problem consists after 30 mins of playing. These are the same games he's always played, even before the problem occured. I was thinking it's his video card, or soemthing overheating. But neither of us can really find a solution, so I thought some of you guys could help us out on how to trouble shoot this.


His system:
amd athlon xp 2800+
1 gig DDR
radeon 9600 aiw
biostar m7ncd pro (i believe)
power supply 450w (new)
 
Try putting your vid card in his system and see how that works. If that doesnt work, then try swapping out his ram. Also while playing games have something like MBM recording his temps and see how high they get.
 
its defintly a heat issue, but not one of overheating. sounds like you have a case of "chip creep". Thermal cycling of push in boards , memory, cards etc can cause them to creep out of there sockets, plugs etc. A tech friend said to me if you every have a machine go flakey try removing and reinserting everything first before screwing around with drivers etc assuming that the machine has been working ok and you havent just gone an loaded something on.
