I built a PC I intended on using to run Linux. It was using a AMD XP 2000 processor, had a 80 gig hard drie, anr 256 mb of ram. I got it all connected and working and installed OpenLinux (from book "Learn Linux in 24 hours" that came with a instillation cd). My intent was to take about a month or so to learn the basics by following this book, then to later install Red Hat. So I installed this version of linux and everything worked fine until the end where it was suppose to restart, but instead I got an error something like "Int... something." I forget exact error. So I turned off an on the computer. I could hear it restart, but this time the monitor would not come on. The monitor still works on my other computer (I have a KVR switch), but not on this. I tried the video card in another compter and it works. I tried reformatting the hard drive (by putting it into another computer and reformattting) then putting it back into the comptuer I built - same problem. Monitor wont turn on. What else could be the problem?

Something is up, because it started up recently. But then when I turned it off and started it again, I would not come up. Could it be the power supply? Its 300 watt.

BTW, its a ASROCK k7vt4a+ mobo

Clear the cmos, make sure that all the cards are sitting in properly, move the dimm to another slot, and disconnect all ide and floppy cables.

Look at your MB manual on how to clear the CMOS externally.
Huh?

Chances are something went Kaput on the PC.
Clear the CMOS (also known as the BIOS)
  • Open your case
  • Unplug the computer from the power source.
  • Find the CMOS battery
  • remove the battery
  • hit the power button a few times.
  • Nothing should happen. Remember? We unplugged the PC!
  • Wait a few minutes. Go smoke ( a cigarette?)
  • insert the battery...If it helps, put hair around it.
  • plug in the PC
  • hit the power button
  • leave the case open
  • the PC will not boot
  • swap out the power supply
  • swap out the memory
  • swap out the processor
  • swap out the motherboard
One of these steps will solve it.;)

I bought another video card... SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 7000(RADEON VE) Video Card... installed it... still no monitor... So at least now I know that is not the problem now.

Maybe the power supply? Its 300W

Try a new BIOS battery.

They are cheap and fixed this problem for me on my parents pc.

generic power supply, came with the case
on the back there is a switch that says 115v and 230v. Does that make any dif? Cuz when I put it on 115v and turn on pc, the pc beeps constantly (still no monitor)

reseat the mem and make sure that it is in the correct slots for the chip type you have.

if you can, pull it out and slap it into another box and memtest the heck out of it for at least 24 hours.

I have seen mem problems prevent the vid card from functioning.

It was the motherboard...

I switched to a asus a7v8x-x and it works

I think by me putting the Gainward CardExpert Savage4 8MB AGP Video Card into the ASRock K7VT4A+" motherboard I messed it up because the mobo instructions said vid card must be 1.5v (4x) or it will damage card. I dont know what the garndward card was.

But my comp works now with the asus a7v8x-x and the sapphire ati radeon 7000
