Problem with my video card maybe?

My system:

mobo: BFGNF4U
ram: 1 gig Corsair Value
cpu: Athlon 64 3000+
video card: XFX GeForce 6600GT PCI-e
hd: WD Caviar sata 160gb


I just built my computer yesterday and have been pretty happy with it. Goes fast enough.. Keeps very cool (minus the video card... since the fan kinda sucks on it... it keeps a bit wwarm).


Anyway. Today I installed Warcraft 3 and ran it in 1024x728 resolution and turned up all the settings all the way. I just wanted to see what it looked like since my old PC needed everything on low... Well, about 10 minutes into the game my screen went blank and said there was no signal to it.

I went back and opened up my monitoring stuff. I ran it again. I think the temperatures of the card got up to about 55C or so.. I figured I'd get a little further along like before checking again. Got to about the same point not thinking to check... And again the screen went blank and questioned the signal.

Well I tried again with lower settings to see if I could keep it cooler and not have that problem. I think when I was checking it was a few degrees cooler... NOthing big... Just 3-6 or so.. I can't remember.

So then I decided to test Commandos 3 in it. Got a little ways into that, and yet again... Screen went black and claimed there was no signal.

I'm not sure as to if it's overheating.. Or what. But I keep having that problem and am wondering what it could be. I'm gonna try reseating it in a little bit to see if that'll help any. But does anyone else have any suggestions?



I also noticed today that it has been deactivated on newegg. :-\

So are the video card drivers you are using the only ones that have ever been installed onto your hard drive?
If there are old ATI drivers on your hard drive that would cause some problems.

What brand and wattage is your power supply?
How many amps can it do on the +12V rail?

I said at the top of my post that I just built this PC yesterday. It hasn't even been whole for 24 hours yet heh.

Power supply gives out 420W. I'd read reviews from people saying they used the same PSU on their computers which were pretty much the same as mine and had no problems. The PSU is a ThermalTake Silent Power.

To tell the truth I haven't checked the voltage of anything there. I partially just assumed it'd be fine.... But at the same time broke my voltometer... Need to get a new one.

I saw that, but some people (like me) keep their old hard drives when they build a new computer.
I was just making sure.

I have no other ideas, sorry.
Here is where some one smarter than I comes in and saves the day.

Nevermind now. I fixed it. I had been so stressed about the XP-90 heatsink installation Thursday(very tight fit, can't actually mount it the way you are supposed to) that I had been worried of something messing up. So I was just telling myself it had to be the hardware or something. I uninstalled all the drivers and installed all the new ones.... Figuring it'd do nothing because of how the thing was reacting in the gaming. Told myself the drivers it came with couldn't do that. But apparently they did.... Because I played Warcraft 3 for about 40 minutes tonight without trouble. Over half the time was all max settings.

Geez.... Something has got me on the pessimistic side of life lately and I didn't want to believe it could be so easy.

PS: Oh yeah. I guess before something that would've made it a little more obvious that I was using all new parts was that the last pc was 5-6 years old haha. But it could still handle stuff today!!! And that's not bad. It didn't compete. But it could at least play.
