problem with my overclock?

after days of testing out the max points for my 3200 venice and new ocz plat rev 2's, i think i finally found a pretty good spot for my overclock...however, i seem to be getting problems when running 3dmark05. i have my cpu overclocked to 2.68ghz at 1.6v, my memory at 243mhz 2-4-3-7 1T timings at 2.85v, and then i had my 2 xfx 6600gt's graphics cards set to 555/1110 each. when i ran 3dmark05 before, it got about half way thru the first test, and then it quit me to the desktop. so i reboot, and try again. this time, the computer just totally reboots on it's own during the first test. so my question is, is my power supply not giving my components enough juice for all these overclocks (ocz modstream 450w)? because i can't really figure out anything else that could be causing this. my cpu overclock is 4 1/2 hour prime stable (will run tonight to make sure it's totally stable with a good 8-10 hour run). i think i might be able to get more overclock, but for some reason i think my power supply may be holding me back with everything that i'm running now. any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if it is my psu, would a sunbeam nuuo 550w be a good replacement? i like the modular design of it, and think it would make a good fit. if so, i'll probably have to wait a while till they get back in stock somewhere on the net, as every retailer that has them seems to be out of stock.

thanks

Your powersupply could be one reason. Have you tried to run 3dmark without your video cards overclocked?

I would suggest to not purchase the sunbeam ps as it is a pos ;)

I would recommend something that is sli certified if you have the money. At the very least get something atx 2.0 compliant.

ok, ran it with cards overclocked: crashed to desktop towards the end of the first test

put cards back to stock speeds, rebooted and ran 3dmark again, got thru all three tests no problem with a decent score of 6622 (compared to my overclocked card score over 7000). so i'm guessing it's a power issue?

Its either a power issue, or a heat issue. Are you running stock cooling? Then again it could be a combo of both :)

The core speed you have isnt to drastic for stock cooling try dropping your mem speed and see what happens. Try like 1050 - 1075 for mem and see if it runs stable.

nope, not stock cooling for anythin....i have an xp-90 w/ a panaflo fan for my cpu, and i have zalman vf700cu's on both graphics cards...my case is pretty well ventilated. cpu idles at about 32C, rises to 43C on load, mobo stays at about 30-31C at all times, and my graphics cards are idling at 42C & 39C...don't remember their load temps, but they're probably about 10 degrees higher more or less. so i doubt heat is really an issue at this point...

will run rthdribl or something like that (if it doesn't crash) to see what temps i get for my cards

edit - temps rose to about 52C and 46-47C for the two cards, so heat doesn't seem to be an issue

I agree :) Almost positive its a power issue then :)

I highly recommend something ATX 2.0 compliant. With your rig you probably want something 550W

If you're totally set on modular PS give the Antec TruePower 550W a look its modular and ATX 2.0 Compliant it might be sli certified as well but I am not sure.

ok, thanks for the help. glad that i found the problem (or at least what seems to be the problem)...not gonna rush on the psu just yet tho, as i'm in no rush to really play any pc games at the moment with this fracture finger i have on my right hand (holding a mouse is pretty uncomfortable with the stupid splint on it  ) so i'll shop around and see what's in my budget. thanks again anime_fan

Anytime :)

I think there is a good sticky if I remember in the power supply forum that talks about what to look for and what to avoid.

yep, i've been all over that forum the past weeks, checkin up on all the lists and stickies. gonna keep my options open for now and hope i see a good deal soon
