Problem with my MX700

I'm not sure if there is a mouse and keyboard forum and if there is I didn't see it. If there is just tell me and I'll walk out of General and go on over there for my question.

Anyway I got my MX Duo last December and I've been loving the hell out of it. The only problem is something that has recently developed with the MX 700 and the charger. Most of the time now when I put it in the charger it doesn't seem to detect the mouse and it never charges. I normally have to spend at least a minute shifting it around or holding it down before it see's it and the green light starts flashing. This morning I woke up and I guess while I was sleeping it lost contact with the mouse and it didn't even charge. This is starting to get on my nerves and I was wondering if anyone else here has had similar problems or knows of a solution.

Check it for dirt and grime, and maybe clean off the golden contacts. Check to make sure there aren't any obstructions and that the contacts touch each other. Something might have shifted or something.

I've been going nuts cleaning these things off, they're completely spotless and I KNOW they're making contact but they just don't do anything.

Check in the back where the power cord connects to the USB/ PS/2 port and make sure it's plugged in. The thing hangs out quite a bit, so maybe the little power connector slid out a little.
Then again, you would have noticed the lights on the base not lighting up.

I'm not sure what else to do besides taking apart the two units and seeing if anything is wrong, which isn't something I personally would feel comfortable doing.

i havent had any problems with mine, theyve been great

The lights on the base still come on whether the power cord is plugged in or not, however if it did slide out a little it could be causing the problem charging

How can the lights come on if the base unit's power cord isn't plugged in?

I have this same exact problem with my MX Duo charger. I found that if you carefully align the mouse with the slot on the charger then it will work everytime.

USB includes a 5 volt power line - the charger gets power for the LEDs from this. It might even charge your mouse from this if you don't have the power plugged in, although it's probably slower but would work.

edit: I just tried this with my MX 700 (no keyboard version) and it would not charge without the power plugged in, although the mouse still works.

I started encountering this problem a few weeks ago, but I had an extra charger so I swapped it in and it worked great. The only reason that this could happen is because the charging pins are not making contact with the mouse. I think that the pins on the charger being depressed so that they no longer pop up high enough is the cause.

Mine did this a couple times, but seems to have stopped :)

I just would take it on and off and couple times and it'd start charging.

Or have you tried just leaving it on there for a while, does it ever start charging by itself?

i found doing the same thing with the duo that if u dont plug the power cable in, the cordless keyboard still works, but the mouse won't work or charge

I had that problem with one of my MX700's. Just slammed my mouse in the charger all the time and that always fixed that problem....

Ive got the same problem as well right now. Everything is nice and clean too. Hopefully it doesnt get worse. :(

well...I don' t know about your specific problem but here was my experience:

my mx700 started getting funky with the buttons(they would kind of stick, but not really)

it was driving me nuts, i had cleaned it, taken it apart, etc. Finally I called logitech

*and this is why i will buy from them over and over again:*

they said ok. we'll send you a new one. I didn't even have to send them the bum mouse back. It was a brand new mouse, problem solved. THAT was customer service.

Try giving them a call. (they verified my serial number btw.)

Very nice, I'll keep that in mind if I start having problems or if I'm buying a new mouse...I love my MX duo :)
