problem with my e6600 core speed

after looking using several diagnostic programs to check my core speed ive found out that my core is only running 1600 mhz instead of 2400. Any reason why this would be occuring and how i can fix it?
 
Hmm, I would try to contact Intel , or possibly try to get a return going and get another one, if infact it is defective.

lowers the multiplier and voltage when the processor is not fully utilized.

So,
run something like prime95, minimize, and then check cpuz.

or you can have the processor always run at full speed by disabling EIST and C1E in the bios. it'll just waste more power, so i'd leave it on. no performance difference.
