Problem with my custom built PC

Specs are

Nvidia GeForce 8800GT
Intel Q6600 quad core
IP35 motherboard

So I was playing the rift online beta and all the sudden my PC froze, I figured okay random crash ill just try again. Same thing happened this time I got the blue screen of death. I then figured maybe it was just that game so I tried it on World of Warcraft and the same thing happened. Now when I turn my PC I have lines through the middle of the screen and it wont even boot up windows.


I am guessing my video card is shot? If I replace it do you think it will solve my problem?

What PSU do you have?
Do you have a spare video card or PSU?
 
I have a corsair 550w PSU. And no dont have any spare video cards or PSU's to try unfortunately.
 
Well here's the thing: the issues you've described could be attributed to the video card, PSU, or even the motherboard.

So see if you can test your video card in another PC then.
 
Gah, I really don't have another PC to test it in. What do you think the most likely culprit is? I guess I will just try and replace that first. I really dont have any other options I can think of.

Any recommendations around the $100-130 range? I want to at least get an upgrade so if it turns out it is not the video card at least I wont feel that bad.

Pretty much your best option in that price range is the HD 5770 1GB. Yes it's a decent enough upgrade over the 8800GT.
