Problem with "My Computer" and contents.

A few days ago, everything worked just fine.
But, then, I went on a 4 days vacation with my family... when I got back...
Whenever opening "my computer" it takes about 25 seconds to load. Winrar archives take hell of a time to open. Even "Paint" takes ages to open.
I mean, my computer has quadcore Q6600 @ 2.4GHz... this shouldn't freaking happen.
I've googled this crap a few times... They all talk about (WIA) which is already disabled on my PC. They also talk about unchecking "Automatically search for network folders and printers" in the "Folder Options"... Which I have already done and hasn't solved the problem.
Help please?
 
have you looked in event viewer to see if there's a bunch of errors?

when I had this problem, it was due to my ide controller crapping out, causing a ton of data corruption, very very slow decompressing/compressing of archives, etc.
