Recently, I bought the Logitech Z-640's and the AOen Cobra AW-850 5.1 sound card. The only problem is that I do not get sound out of the rear speakers when they are plugged into my sound card. If I use them on a video game console they work perfectly, and probably on a DVD player, but I haven't tried yet. Anyway, I have my computer set to 5.1 in the audio settings, but I still get no sound from the rear speakers. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
 
This happened to me with my Logitech Z-680s. Are the audio settings that you speak of, the settings for your sound card? Like AOpen's configuration utility? If so, what you need to do is go into the Control Panel and then go into Sounds and Audio Devices. In there, on one of the tabs, there will be a drop-down menu for the type of speakers that you have, be it 2, 4, 5.1, headphones, etc. Just pick 5.1, hit apply/OK and you're set. Surround Sound in all it's glory.
 
The CD actually didn't come with a configuration utility, and I was talking about the control panel sound menu. So that's not the problem...

When do you not get sound out of the rear speakers?
When playing music? When playing games? When surfing the web? When drinking beer on the patio?
Specifics help a lot here. ;)
 
eL c0L0mb1aNo - I don't know what they're called, but they're green, black, and orange headphone sized connections (RCA?)

Mister X - I never get rear sound on my computer, only on consoles and whatnot.
 
Yeah, that has me a bit stumped. I guess the only advice that I can offer you now is to check the connections.
 
Well I just plugged the rear speakers into the front speaker port (green) on the sound card and they started working, but nothing works when it's in the rear port (black). Also, as a side question, what does the orange port do (C/LFE)?
 
yep, orange is center/lfe. what application are you using to generate sound? winamp? winamp doesn't by default make noise out the back speakers. does playing a dvd (i assume you have dvd player software... if not then check out media player classic and cinenow for some high def high quality audio in 5.1. if these don't work something else is wrong.
 
I'm a moron. I never even noticed the AOpen icon in my taskbar. It was set for 2 speakers. Thanks for the help anyway though.
