Hi all!
I have a problem with that mainboard and 6600gt...sometimes when i play(for 1 hours or for 15minutes) there is a total block of the pc..and i can only restart...the 6600gt is returned from 1 week from the RMA and it's ok...what is the problem?

I think that the problem is an incompatibility between 6600gt and my mainboard because when i remove it i can play with the x300 integrated for many hours..
 
I’ve also been having problems with my MSI RS480 motherboard. And I’ve been doing quite a bit of testing with it. To start, here is my setup:

MSI RS480M2-IL
Athlon 64 3500+ (Venice core)
Kingston HyperX PC3200 (2x512mb)
Leadtek 6600GT
Creative Audigy 2 ZS
X-Qpack
Antec 500w SmartPower PSU
Western Digital Ultra ATA 200gb hard drive

I’m having problems with random lock-ups. I experienced many of the same things described in this thread http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=931081&highlight=ECS+RS480-M (note: this thread talks about the ECS board with the same chipset). The system would lock randomly. Sometimes after the computer was on for only 5 minutes. Other times the computer could game for 12 hours before it locked. It happened during game play (World of Warcraft and UT2004) and while simply browsing the internet. There was no pattern I could find due to length of play, time the computer has been on, or activity that was being done at the time.

Here are the steps I’ve gone through to solve the problem:

- Replaced power supply (was originally using stock PSU in the Qpack).
- Replaced memory (originally was using OCZ Platinum 1x1gb stick)
- Updated BIOS to most current version
- Tried multiple Forceware versions (71.89, 77.77, and 78.01) each time the previous driver was COMPLETELY removed from system including deleting all driver files and registry entries.
- Removed Audigy 2 ZS and left integrated audio disabled and played without sound.
- Replaced video card with a BFG 6600GT OC.
- Tried multiple BIOS settings until smoke came out of my ears.

Each of the above steps was tried independently of each other. In each case I would still run into problems. On a few occasions, the system would actually reboot itself and Windows would report a problem. Here is the logfile of that problem:

In the thread I mentioned earlier, someone else also mentions problems with the nvdisp.dll. Also in that thread many of the people having problems are using an nVidia graphics card on this ATI chipset.

Gohaneri above states that he has replaced the motherboard and still has the same problem. At this point, I am beginning to suspect that this chipset has issues with either nVidia graphics cards or the nVidia drivers. My next step is to replace this motherboard with the Foxconn. (I have no plans to overclock so those BIOS settings are not important to me.) Maybe an ATI video card would work just fine with this motherboard, but I’m tired of the problems so I’m moving to an nVidia chipset.

I am sorry, I had the same problem, I DID switch to the nvidia chipset though.
 
I have this mobo and i have never had any of the problems you are exlpaining. But I had been using a x850xt with it.
 
Well I had an X800XL and had it. But I know now that it was the SB Audigy 2 ZS that was causing the problems.
 
I have the MSI board with this chipset, and I had random hard locks for several months. I finally cured it by switching to an ATI Video card. As soon as I got off NVidia, my lockups went away. I'm not knocking NVidia, I'm just positing that, perhaps, there is an issue with the NV drivers/card and the ATI chipset.

i would say theres a problem with teh chipset, not the card/drivers. that chipset is still brand new, there are gonna be a few bugs in it. NV's chipsets work great with both company's graphics cards.

what power supply are you running? id put my money on that
 
I tried both the 420w cheap one that came with my Qpack and a pretty strong 500w Antec Truepower, both had exactly the same lockup frequency. I realize that power can be a problem with systems, but I'm 99% sure that this was a chipset vs. video card issue, as that's what resolved it for me.

i know that, what i was saying is that the issue probably originates from the chipset, not the video card - the video card works fine on many other chipsets.
 
I know what you are going through!!! I had lockups with my MSI RS480M2 while playing BF2 within 10-20 minutes consistently. Wasted a whole weekend troubleshooting! Replaced PSU, CPU fan, reloaded OS and drivers, etc.

In the end it turned out to be an issue with using the Audigy 2 with my setup (RS480M2/X850XT/SBAudigy2). When I used the onboard sound I did not get any lockups, strange thing is my X-Fi works fine.

When I re-loaded my OS clean just the other day - I could not get any ATI drivers to install unless I first removed the X-Fi. Loaded all ATI drivers, then installed X-fi and installed drivers. Everything is working fine now once again and I am very pleased with the performance of this MB.
 
Thats why nForce4 is better heh. So much better. At least until the bugs are worked out.
 
It probably is a board incompatability, but just to play the devil's advocate for a second, it would be quite devious if nVidia built the incompatability into their drivers... I mean if I had AMD's non-OEM board market cornered, that would be a slick way of making it hard on the competition to gain entry... Just a thought. ;)

I've heard ATi's chipsets on the Intel side have had some problems, so it is probably some accidental(?) hardware incompatability.
