Hey Guys,
Received an Maxtor MaXLine III 300GB SATA Hard Drive awhile back from a friend.
Anyway, the problem i'm having with is that when I'm running Windows XP Pro the drive always freezes on me after about 2 min of operation.
However, when running Vista Ultimate (dual boot) on the same computer it has no problems at all. How strange is that? It currently has 130GB left on it that I would like to use with XP.
I realizes that the MaXLine is a server style HD but that isn't the issue.
Any ideas or guesses on what is the problem?
Thanks, kcmac21

your sure its the drive thats freezing and not something wrong in windows? it doesn't seem like a problem with the drive since vista runs fine.

if you have a XP cd try running a repair on the installation.

Hello,
Thanks for your suggestion.
But thats not it because I've formatted this drive at least twice and still have the same undesirable effects as stated above.
Take care, kcmac21 aka RiDeR

have you tried running a checkdisk to see if it picks up and fixes any errors or the drive has bad sectors?

Finally got around to running chkdisk as you said.
It froze after conducting the second of three tests (XP)
I'll tried it in Vista but I'm sure it will run fine but maybe it will fix errors that simply can't run (or be fixed) on XP. I'll do this tomorrow...now I need to get back to HL2DM :)
