Hey guys Just got the new LG 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor L246WP,

but I'm having a major problem with it and my Xbox 360.
First thing is 1080p will not work over component but I figured that would be the case the 2nd problem is alittle more bizzar.

I bought the VGA adapter for the 360 to be able to see it in all its 1080p glory however when I choose 1920x1080 the screen goes black and comes back with a rez of 640x480. It is totally driving me nuts the highest I can set it too on the 360 is 1280x1024.

I first thought maybe it also didnt support 1080p over vga but I hooked it up to my PC and it did 1080p no problem.

Does anyone else have this monitor that is having the same problem? Or is it just possible that the LG doesnt recognize the Xbox's frequency at that Rez?

This is really a big disapointment to me as the Screen is just beautiful other than this problem. I am debating switching it for the Gateway 24 monitor what do you guys think.

The Gateway 2458 is a very nice monitor... I have one on my desk now next to a benq fp241w (which I almost like more because of its reduced backlight bleed and HDMI connector)... but the gateway has a nicer PIP feature than the benq and seems more 'finished'... a more professional looking border around the screen, more sturdy stand, and the touch sensitive led buttons are great looking (although kind of annoying to use in practice...)

I will tell you that I have been having some problems though... the first one i bought had a horrible buzzing sound and the screen flickered a bunch... swapped it for another one and the buzzing was gone but the flicker remains... its very subtle, and only in instances of certain games like when specular lighting is very high (IE the grass in world of warcraft, or the surface of water in HL2). Its enough to give me a migrane when I look at it long enough, but it does this with the benq241 monitor too... (I have a whole thread on this running right now... not sure why this is happening... maybe my 3 computers (which all exibit the same behavior) are the cause....

the 360 is known to have bugs with computer monitors, the FP241W can only go to 1650 by something with VGA... since they use the same panel(from what i've heard it might be the reason

Can you post pics/comments about the monitor please i'm interested in it. Does the HDCP work, etc?

Just to double check -- on the PC, you set a custom resolution of 1920 by 1080, NOT the usual 1920 by 1200, and it worked correctly? If so, was the image displayed correctly with black bars on the top and bottom, or was it stretched to fill the whole screen?

Thanks for the reply, that’s what I figured I think I'll just live with the 360 problem because the monitor is just gorgeous. Much better in my opinion than the Gateway I’ve done tests on both.

As for comments on the monitor, it’s simply beautiful some of the negative comments I've been reading on peoples hear say is just crazy. This panel’s colour is so nice you’d sware it was S-IPS and the Black level is easily one of the best I’ve seen in a LCD and I use a 30 inch Apple Cinema display pretty regularly.

As far as banding I haven’t really had time to do any tests on it but there isn’t anything noticeable at all. And HDCP should be fine all I could test was my 360's HD-DVD player and it was fine but I realize that isn’t really a great test for it.

I will take some pics later on, I really love it and I got a smoking deal on it ($599 Canadian) I just wish it didn’t have the issues with 1080p with the 360 but maybe MS will put out a patch to fix it.

I highly recommend it.

Yes I tried both 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 and it worked perfect.

As far as I remeber it didnt have any black bars at the top or bottom when I had it in 1920x1080 but Ill have to do it again and double check because I dont think I had it set to 1:1.

Thanks, Achtung. If you could verify that 1:1 mapping works, I (and I'm sure a lot of others) would appreciate it. Also congrats on the deal you got -- $599 Canadian!? ascarytiger mentioned on another thread that this monitor will retail for $699 US at Best Buy in the states, so that's quite a deal you got! How did you manage that (employee discount, or something similar)?

How could i forget that! 1:1, does it have the option? (aspect ratio or only 1:1?) and does it display well? with a 1080p movie/ps3 you should only get small bars at the top and bottom.

I currently own the FP241W, it's the perfect monitor, if it wasn't of the damn black-out problem(on/off/on within a second), and the LG is build with the same panel so it's really my first choice right now... but i need to know about 1:1/aspect (for PS3) and if you have this bug(black-out; the screen goes all black for a second than comes back like nothing ever happened... randomly)

I can tell you 1:1 works perfect with the LG and you can choose between 1:1 or wide wihch pretty much means it stretches to fit the screen.

I dont have a ps3 but i do have a Xbox 360 but as I said above there is a problem with the 360 outputting to this monitor through VGA or component at 1080p the highest I can set it to is 1280x1024 Which looks great but its not 1080p.

as far as Black-out Ive had this thing for 2 weeks and have never had this problem.

Nice, for the 1:1 is it real 1:1(if the input signal is 640-480 it really only show 640-480) or does it have aspect(stretch the 640-480 to something to fill the screen BUT keeps the ratio so no image distortion or weird stretching)?

My Local Bestbuy has 4 in stock. The guy also pulled one out and man this thing is very sexy. The monitor also has a finish like a glossy screen, but its still matted. Also the stand is probally the best one I have seen. It is indeed. It indeed looks better than the Gateway, but the reports of the screen ability not able to do 1:1 in VGA or componet. Also this monitor does not have a DVI port, only HDMI. I am not sure why LG did this, but I am still thinking of getting. I will probally buy this bad boy today or tomarrow. I will try to do a full review in the next two days if I get it.

That sucks, I have the Gateway 24 and it displays an amazing 1:1 1080p picture over VGA w/ 360 and PS3. A lot of people knock the Gateway for little things but IMO it's the best 24 incher out right now, great price, great functionality and great picture.

To each his own I guess, but these other 24s have so many issues that I just don't understand why so many people pay top dollar for them and settle for shit functionality.

I haven't come across this info -- do you have a link for this?

Achtung -- when testing 1:1, did you only try the HDMI, or did you also test either of the other inputs? I assumed when you said it 1:1 worked flawlessly you meant it worked for all inputs, but now I realize that you didn't explicitly mention this... it would be quite a bummer if 1:1 didn't work for VGA or component.

well I am going by with what someone else said. And the 360 can not use HDMI, or nor do I own a PS3:p
