Sorry for the long drawn out explaination that is to follow. I hope it has some relevance to solving my problem though.
Ive got some kind of annoying problem with my internet thats happened before, but this time I cant fix it. Last Sunday I used my computer and everything was working fine. I didnt make any changes to any settings, just used my computer like normal people do.
Wednesday, my mom goes on her laptop, which is set up through the wireless network in my house (my PC is connected directly to the modem & router). She checks her email. Everything is cool. I go on my PS3 to check my mail that night (didnt feel like booting up my computer) and its giving me an error that its not getting a connection. So I turn off my modem and router for a few seconds and turn it back on, which usually solves the problem when I lose my connection. No luck. So figure its a service problem.
I go on my computer the next morning and I cant get online through that either, so I figured that its the same crap I have to go through with AT&T from time to time with manually setting up my connection all over again. I don't know why all my settings get screwed up every once and a while with me making no changes to them. Their customer support techs over in India cant seem to give me an answer to this problem either, which has been happening over the course of 2 computers now.
So I set everything up again through Internet Explorer--->Internet Options--->Connections--->Setup---> Setup a new connection. At this point it only give me the opion to set up a Broadband (PPoE) After that I enter my ISP, Password, and Connection info and set up a connection. Everything works cool, I can browse the internet, but when I reboot, thats when I get problems. I used to be able to boot up, click Internet Explorer, and be online in seconds. Now it goes through this whole process of trying to dial into and connect to AT&T's network, which is the only way I can get online. Normally I would want to keep the setting "Never dial a connection" checked, since Im using a DSL line that I always want to be on. My problem is that once I tick that option, I can't get online anymore at all.
Any thoughts on whats causing this?
Oh, and all anyone has to say is that this problem, as well as the may other issues I have, is related in some way to the copy of Windows Vista Home Premium that is running on my computer, and I will gladly format the crap out of my system. I am soooo ready to go back to XP.
